Bryant Stevens, an alumni of Jubilee Brass was Promoted to Glory on January 30th,2009 from Woodstock, Ontario.

The members of Jubilee Brass journey from across South-West Ontario to pay respects by providing the music for his ‘Celebration of Life’ which took place on February 3rd.

Bryant had to retire from Jubilee Brass due to ill health but was described by Bandmaster Gordon in a tribute as a real Christian gentleman, a very committed bandsman, and a proud but humble Salvationist who served his Lord to the very best of his ability.

The band provided a most suitable prelude with such hymns as ‘Pilgrims’, ‘Unsworth’, ‘Ellers’, ‘Brantwood’ and ‘Bright Crowns’ as well as the arrangement of ‘Penlan’. ‘Yellow star and red and blue’ was chosen for the entry of the casket, pallbearers and family.

During the service, a grandson, Stephen Burditt gave a most sensitive and accomplished rendition of ‘Out of my bondage’ accompanied by Jubilee Brass.

The Band chose as its selection ‘Serenity’ and, of course, the traditional Salvation Army tribute ‘Promoted to Glory’ was played. Major Frank Dixon brought a memorable and most significant message for the occasion, a fitting tribute to this warrior for God.

For the postlude, ‘Sweeping through the gates’ was chosen as the solemn conclusion.

Bryant was born to Salvation Army Officers and became an officer himself along with wife Eileen and served faithfully for many years though he did not enter retirement as an officer.
He and Eileen raised four children and delighted in them and the grandchildren.

Many fine tributes were presented during this celebration indicating the love and esteem in which he was held.
Bryant Stevens, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.
