Heather Moyle is a gem-clear
cut and polished. As The
Secretary for adult
ministries of the Great
Lakes Division she is also
the liaison between Jubilee
Brass and DHQ.
Every October she pulls off
one fantastic rally after
another for seniors which is
held in the Hellenic Centre
in London. As well as very
special and entertaining
guests she always has ‘her’
band along for pre session
entertainment. The event is
held around a delicious meal
and two sessions of
fellowship fun and challenge.
This took place on Friday,
October 9th. Attendees from
all over South-Western
Ontario slogged through
torrential downpours to
attend . Their spirits
couldn’t be dampened.
The Hellenic Centre is a
Community Centre consisting
of four large meetings rooms
run by the Holy Trinity
Greek Orthodox community of
London, Ontario.
The special guests this year
were Envoys Doug and Helene
Kornwolf who are
illusionists and the USA
Eastern Territory
Evangelists. In the 70s Doug
ran a talent agency working
with Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy
Orbison and other notables
in the field. Helene, a
native of Quebec, left home
for California for
excitement and work. She
came to Doug’s agency.
Instead of working in an
office pushing manila file
folders she became a “Showgirl”.
The short story is that Doug
and Helene’s relationship
blossomed and they were
married.. Canada was the
destination for the
development of a new act.
In the band they created
Helene would sing and Doug
would do some stand up
comedy, singing and
illusions.
In a club one night Doug
confronted Helene with a
question: “Do you think if
Christ came to see our show
that He’d applaud?” Her
immediate response was, “No,
I think we’ve got to change
our life.”
They were making big money
but walked away, accepted
Christ in a Swaggert crusade
in Toronto and returned to
Montreal where they became
involved in a Bible
believing church.
The Kornwolfs connection
with the Salvation Army
began with soldiership at
Montreal Citadel and then
became traveling evangelists
for all four of the USA
territories. For the last 15
years they have been
evangelists for the eastern
territory. They live in
Florida but spend eight
weeks at a time on the road.
Their theme song could well
be Willie Nelson’s “On the
road again”.
All of their illusions have
a Gospel application-a
message.
The Kornwolfs have appeared
at Shuller’s Crystal
Cathedral and at NASCAR
events performing for the
kids of the drivers.
The Kornwolfs did not
disappoint the crowd that
had gathered at the Hellenic
centre. They are polished,
smooth, terribly witty and
committed to getting the
message across in their
unusual acts. They are very
professional and effective
in their chosen ministry.
The contributions by Jubilee
Brass included the marches
“New Zealand Warriors” and
“Army of God”. the
Processional “Be Glorified”,
the march medley “Gospel
Jubilee”, A bagpipe solo by
Jack Bernard “Highland
Cathedral”, a vocal
selection “The Beautiful
Land”, and two hymn tune
arrangements “Praise my
soul” and “Shine, Jesus
Shine”
One wonders what Heather
will come up with for next
year. |
